Initially you would\'ve had to wait until Jan 1 (the year after you purchased your home) to file for your homestead exemption but Effective Jan 1, 2022 thanks to Senate Bill 8, one can now file for HS exemption at any time. Once transaction has been recorded and the appraisal district has changed ownership the exemption will apply. Be sure to call the appraisal district if ownership has not changed and inform them of ownership change, as sometimes this is not done automatically. Homestead property tax exemption can be claimed on Form 50-114.
