I hope these suggestions are useful to you:\n\n\nWhen calling- Pay attention to their tone and what they are saying. If they keep implying that they have to have the money first, or that the room is not available but they will take a deposit ahead of time - Don’t do it! There are many people that make a living scamming innocent people.\n\nPlease be careful- Always meet in the daytime, and if you can go accompanied.\n\n3. Try to rent through an actual management company that requires all the paperwork and\n background checks.\n\n4. Avoid apartments. Landlords do not allow for tenants to sublet their apartments. If they\n claim is okay go to the landlord to verify.\n\n5. Try to rent from a homeowner, but first verify that they are indeed the owner. You can check \n by going to the appraisal district (i.e.hcad.org). Also, choose a room that is vacant and \n available immediately. \n\n6. Do not hand over the deposit until you have seen the room, signed a lease and gotten the\n keys (test them). \n\n7. Report scams to IC3 and local authorities.\n\n\n
