After graduating from Rice University, Eleni Agiz journeyed to Ethiopia to study and live in the birth place of her parents. There she began a 10 year career in education. Upon returning home, Eleni continued to teach in schools in the Houston area, where her parents first settled after immigrating from Ethiopia.
