Leasing in a 55+ Community

My first real estate client wanted to sell her home in the country and move into a 55+ Community near Houston. She was retired and wanted to lease an apartment under $1600 a month that focused on independent senior living. At first, I did not understand what was so special about living in one of these communities until I started to visit them.

I took off on my own to scout out the best places for her, so when she was ready to visit, we were not wasting her time. Wow! I was amazed by these 55+ Communities.

A 55+ Community is very similar to luxury apartments but with games and activities that support independent senior living. The places I selected looked new and featured upgraded floors, appliances, and countertops that many home buyers/renters would love. Surprisingly, my client could afford a one-bedroom home with its own washer and dryer in a beautiful complex.

If you are 55 and above, and are interested in leasing from one of these communities but are not completely convinced, here are other reasons to consider these communities:

1. Social Support The communities I chose for my client have a variety of weekly activities for people to get together and socialize. One community provided different types of card games, bingo, and bunco on a daily basis. There were sign up sheets for margarita night and a night of barbecue with pot luck. If you are someone that loves to be around people, a 55+ Community may be perfect for you.

2. Amazing Facilities Most of these communities feature a resort style pool with a relaxing chill platform for taking in the sun. At one place the pool chairs and beds were a foot higher than normal to accommodate active adults with bad knees. Also, the workout rooms have everything an active adult could ask for along with weekly yoga classes and low impact aerobics.

3. Pet Friendly Every community I visited was pet friendly. In fact, most of these homes will exempt the monthly pet fee if the animal is a registered emotional support animal. Also, most places have a gated dog park that allows your dog to run free!

4. Transportation Even though my client can easily drive, many of these communities provide transportation to the store and other places every week.

5. The Home My client was interested in an 813-sf home with one bed and walk in shower at a gorgeous complex that featured granite countertops, an island kitchen, a large walk-in closet and a private patio. Almost every complex has multiple living choices that fit all needs.

I am very excited to promote renting from a 55+ Community because senior living supports a large group of people that want to stay social, active, and happy. In fact, I am already 52 and may consider this option in a few years.

If you are at least 55 years young and want to live in an active community like the ones I found for my client, please contact me, and I will find the best home for you!
