Hello,I am moving to Houston for a new job by the end of July and would really appreciate some help since we are moving from Virginia and know very little about Houston. I'm listing my situation/wish list as follows:* My husband and I are both working professionals. We have a young son (about 2 year old) and two dogs (one 14 pounds and one 40 pounds).* My new job is in Cypress, but my husband is currently looking for jobs in the Bay Area (since he is a chemical engineer). So our ideal location will be between Cypress and Bay Area, but close to Cypress (such as zip code 77084 or something similar). * A two bedroom single-family house will be sufficient for now. Since we have two active dogs, we want a house with a fenced-in backyard, and wish to avoid carpet in at least the living room and kitchen. * Our son is only 2 year old, so school district is not our top priority right now. But we do wish for a safe and family-friendly neighborhood. * Our budget is $1000 to $1200 per month (hopefully that includes utilities). * However, due to our current hectic schedule it will be extremely difficult for either me or my husband to visit Houston from Virginia ahead of time just for house viewing. We really wish to work with a realtor to find a reasonable house and finalize the paperwork electronically before our big move to Houston by the end of July. Please let me know if this is possible. Any input is appreciated! Thank you in advance!YW

Hi Wang,

There are many options in north west Houston around $1200, I recommend working with a realtor who does property management as well as he can help you prepare a complete file to send to potential landlords. At that price points, rentals get many applications, hence it is important to have yours stand out.
I happen to own a property management company and would be glad to help you.

Hello,

As mentioned earlier, it would be difficult to find you a home before you visit the area. There are some things an agent can not choose for you including a neighborhood. Please consider finding one agent to help you. That agent can up a search or possibly multiple searches depending on the situation. With a clear idea of what you would like it should not take you long to find a home once you have arrived in Houston.

I hope this helps!

YW,
I'm not sure you're going to be able to find a REALTOR that would be able to help you find a home without you viewing it in person. Unfortunately, it opens up some ethical and legal possibilities if there were issues that arose after you moved into the home.
I'd highly recommend you investigate a short term corporate rental for a month or two before you lease so that you can familiarize yourself with the area and check out neighborhoods and commute times.
Another big concern I have for you as a family is the mileage to and from possible job locations, at least for your husband, driving from the Bay area to Cypress. He's looking at 40-50 miles one way and depending on when he's due at work, there could be 2-4 hours in driving per day.
Once you're here in Houston I'd be happy to give you any assistance I can.
Welcome to Houston and Texas!
