Are You a Foreign Person Selling a Home?


If you are selling a home and do not have a social security card or green card, you are considered a foreign person. This means, the escrow agent will withhold from the sale proceeds an amount sufficient to comply with applicable tax law and deliver the amount to the IRS. While it is the buyer's responsibility to collect these funds and submit it to the IRS, in reality, the escrow agent is the one that really provides this service. Just a bit of FYI.
